The Diocese of Rochester has received significant funding from the National Church to place a Church Project Worker into Christ Church in Erith. The role will develop and lead on initiatives that engage with children and families throughout the parish, working well with the local schools and colleges, in the Parish and Deanery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • With the vicar, prioritise the many ideas for activities involving families and children and develop and grow
    • a Holiday Club, during the Summer for two weeks
    • Messy Church as weekly/monthly afterschool session in church
    • a weekly Toddler Church, including liturgical children’s equipment and music
  • Assist with an Emmaus course for young people and adults
  • Develop and grow a young persons’ music group (choral and gospel singing/training), which will regularly lead Sunday evening services
  • Develop and work with a fortnightly Memory Support Congregation, including music & worship, for those with dementia and their carers
  • Nurture and develop a team of volunteer leaders and helpers

Candidates will have the skills, energy and passion to enable new worshipping communities to grow in faith and be enriched in their lives.

Successful candidates should:

  • Have a passion for music and the desire to engage with teaching our faith, engaging with families and children helping them to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Have relevant theological knowledge and experience (paid or unpaid) of teaching Christian music, of children’s ministry and outreach work with families
  • Be able to engage with and relate to a wide range of families and individuals, and to work collaboratively with both lay and ordained people

The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the church in Erith, it is considered that there is a Occupational Requirement (OR) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
