The Diocese of Rochester have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and engaging Gospel Plant Leader to develop and deliver a new gospel congregation in St Marks Gillingham. The post is a 5-year fixed term post funded by the National Church.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the existing ‘occasional’ Gospel Music night worship into a regular new worshipping community
  • Provide spiritual and pastoral leadership for the new congregation
  • Encourage and equip musicians and worship leaders
  • Grow the numbers attending, particularly among BAME de-churched people in the local area
  • Work with local parishes to resource worship music across the area
  • Offer musical learning opportunities for young people to encourage them to join the Gospel Music congregation

Candidates will have strong experience of leading and developing a gospel congregation with a passion for sharing worship in a Gospel style. They will have a deep personal faith and ability to communicate it to others, relevant theological knowledge and/or training and experience of growing a worshipping community and developing its vision.

Successful candidates should have:

  • A desire to serve the church in north Kent, particularly ethnic minority communities
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of volunteers

The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the church in North Kent, it is considered that there is a Occupational Requirement (OR) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
