Mission Development Pastor (5 year fixed-term)

4 days a week (28 hours)

The Diocese of Rochester has received significant funding from the National Church to place a Mission Development Pastor into Anerley Team Ministry. The role will lead the establishing of new missional communities in the local area, including helping to develop and grow the work and ministry of the Freedom Forum, and establishing a missional community among those attending King's Boxing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, launch and lead the development of a church plant into a local estate, with the support of the existing church
  • Developing a vision and suitable style of worship for the church plant to attract local people to explore faith
  • Support Anerley Team Ministry’s existing work with ex-offenders and vulnerable people known as Freedom Forum, including Kings Car Wash and Kings Boxing. Also, to develop a strong working relationship with the existing Freedom Forum leaders and work collaboratively with them
  • Work with the incumbent and Youth Pastor to develop a new worshipping community of young people from Kings Boxing
  • Build strong relationships with local partners including the police, housing associations and other organisations
  • Develop and nurture a team of volunteer leaders and helpers for these new communities.

Candidates will have a vision, in line with that of Anerley Team Ministry, to develop creative ‘new ways of being church’ in order to meet people where they are, help them come to faith and disciple them.

Successful candidates should have:

  • a willingness to become embedded in the local community and develop links with local stakeholders. This will be a priority for the postholder
  • the ability to develop strategy coupled with the desire to be hands-on as new communities develop
  • a demonstrable track record of preaching and teaching (desirable)
  • experience of outreach work and planting new missional communities
  • a proven ability to engage credibly with a wide range of people
  • demonstrable experience of recruiting and leading volunteers

and be

  • highly motivated, proactive and able to take the initiative
  • capable of identifying and developing opportunities and of facilitating their implementation
  • an engaging communicator and team player, able to work collaboratively as well as independently

The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the church in Anerley, it is considered that there is an Occupational Requirement (OR) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
