Ministry Division serves the House of Bishops and Archbishops’ Council by guiding and supporting the church in the task of calling, equipping, sending and supporting those in ministry. We strive to increase the number of those coming forward for ministry and to support all in ministry to grow the church and build the Kingdom.

This role needs skills in both campaigning and stakeholder communications to enthuse and encourage while providing key factual and practical information. You will be flexible and creative in shaping messages for bishops, dioceses, colleges, ministers and others across a range of platforms. You will resource the staff team and play a pivotal role in ensuring that our work is experienced as responsive and professional in a rapidly changing culture in the church and beyond.

The main responsibilities are;

Strategy and project support

  • Leading on communications strategy for Ministry Division, in collaboration with our Senior Management Team
  • Coordinating communication with key stakeholders and maintaining a forward-looking communications calendar
  • Advising on communications strategy for specific projects, such as helping colleagues with stakeholder analysis
  • Tailoring messages to audience
  • Producing presentations, reports, briefings, booklets, newsletters, press releases, web content etc.
  • Working with our Events Officer to produce required material for conferences and consultations, such as presentations and handouts
  • Developing and maintaining brand identity

Digital

  • Creating and updating the ministry team’s web pages and developing strategy
  • Using analytics to optimise page layout and content
  • Working with the Website Manager to ensure the ministry team is in line with the overall CofE website strategy and brand
  • Working with the Digital Content Manager to schedule content and ensure it is in line with the overall CofE digital strategy and brand
  • Working with the digital team, identifying opportunities to develop content for social that inspires others to consider a vocation to lay or ordained ministry
  • Sourcing stories that can be shared through the Church’s social media channels

Media

  • Identifying opportunities to raise the profile of Ministry nationally
  • Sourcing stories to improve media responsiveness
  • Working with the Senior Media Officer to produce press releases and briefings

Essential

This role needs someone with the following knowledge, aptitude and skills

Strategy and project support

  • A skilful and creative communicator with the ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills particularly to reach those on the fringes of the church, communicating with energy and clarity
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial in identifying new opportunities to share the vision for ministry
  • Research skills and experience in communications strategy to inform and direct stakeholder analysis and messaging
  • Ability to make accurate judgements about trends and situations
  • Experience in creating digital content
  • Proficient IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Office Packages, HTML and CMS
  • Desk top publishing skills (Microsoft Publisher) and a high level of visual awareness
  • Understanding the importance of brand identity and able to work with a brand both to maintain and develop it
  • Accurate and reliable over attention to detail with strong administrative capabilities.
  • Accurate written English and excellent proofreading

Digital

  • Experience in using social professionally and strategically
  • Experience in website content management including the use of analytics to optimise page layout and content
  • Experience of implementing effective communication campaigns across multiple media
  • Experience in identifying/sourcing stories to support messaging
  • Experience in using social medial to build communities of interest

Personality and Integrity

  • Ability to influence and inspire colleagues to adopt good practice
  • Confident in church and theological terms and knowledgeable about the structures of the Church of England
  • Experience in a fast paced and demanding workplace, able to demonstrate the capacity to organise a heavy workload, set priorities and delegate where possible.
  • Discreet and reliable in observing confidentiality
