We are looking to appoint an Associate Vicar with a clear gift for discipling and teaching: a ‘congregational trainer’ who will help our members to ‘be Holy and be a Blessing’.
The need for an Associate Vicar arises from the recognition that the role of Vicar in a ‘Large’ church becomes too much for one person to carry, hence why this is an associate ‘Vicar’ and not a second Curacy. Though the Vicar continues to hold the senior leadership position of Incumbent, and the ultimate legal, pastoral and ministerial responsibility for the church, the Associate is there to help carry the load, so that the church’s capacity to grow is not stunted by the capacity of the Vicar.
The role of any Vicar includes the care of both the individuals in the church and the health and direction of the corporate body of the church. In other words, the role involves the discipleship and pastoral care of the congregation as well as the setting and directing of the church’s mission and outreach; the Vicar being both Pastor and Leader.
