An exciting, varied and interesting role supporting the mission of the Diocese of Exeter with responsibility to:

  • Coordinate and report on Diocesan projects
  • Provide support to Parishes to ensure compliance with Charity Commission Financial reporting requirements and the Church Representation rules.

The Diocese has been successful in a number of applications for strategic grant funding from the Archbishops Council. In order to ensure that these projects are monitored and reported correctly, a project accountant is required.

Every year, parishes are required to provide data on the number of people in their regular worshipping community for the annual Common Fund (Parish Share) assessment. This process requires co-ordination and liaison with parishes to ensure that all returns are received in a timely manner. The role holder will work with parishes to encourage them to submit the data by the deadlines.

The duties of the role are many and varied but will include:

  • Ensuring systems are in place for the recording and collection of financial data for the diocesan projects.
  • Preparation of reports to present to senior management and trustees.
  • Preparation and claiming of grants from the National Church.

See Job description for full details.

We are looking for someone with the following experience:

  • Project accounting practice
  • Charity financial law and compliance
  • Financial reporting and data management
  • Written and oral communications
  • Multi agency team working and relationship building

The Diocese of Exeter matches almost exactly the boundaries of the county of Devon, including Torbay and Plymouth. We are a family of Christians, worshipping God in many different settings and groups. We are led by the Bishop of Exeter, and governed by Diocesan Synod which is made up of representatives from across the Diocese.

The central office is the Old Deanery, Exeter, where there is a team of around 60 Diocesan staff whose work is arranged to focus on a number of the goals of the Diocesan vision and strategy, ‘Grow in Prayer, Make new Disciples and Serve the People of Devon with Joy’. These staff work in the following teams: Education, Mission and Ministry, Church and Society, Communications, Property and Church Buildings, Finance, Safeguarding, Vocations, Synod Office, Archdeacons Secretaries, Counselling and Pastoral Care Service and our exciting new Growing the Rural Church Project.
