The Diocese of Exeter is looking for someone with an eye for design and creative ideas about how to bring to life the work of the Church of England in Devon via our website, social media, magazine, mailings and campaigns.

We are looking for someone with editorial, website and design experience to manage our website and oversee production of our monthly magazine, prayer diary and other publications.

He or she will also work on marketing and mission campaigns across different departments in the Diocese, helping develop a brief and working with others to create an end product with maximum impact.

Social media will also play a big part in the role, working alongside other members of the Communications team to ensure the Diocese of Exeter has a strong voice and a listening ear in the social media sphere.

The successful candidate will be working to the Director of Communications and Engagement as part of a close-knit team.

  • Develop and deliver lively and engaging content across all appropriate channels to help bring the Diocesan vision to life.
  • Help parishes effectively communicate and engage with their congregations and local communities.
  • Work with other Diocesan departments on the communications aspect of campaigns and initiatives
  • Manage the Diocese of Exeter website, making it engaging and user friendly. Explore development of new information-sharing apps.
  • Manage and develop the design and publications function of the team, including the magazine, prayer diary and other publications for internal and external audiences across the diocese.
  • Generate advertising for publications when needed.
  • Work as part of the Communications and Engagement team to provide editorial content for the Diocese magazine and other publications.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A qualification to degree level in a relevant field or with equivalent experience
  • The ability to make our website and magazine as engaging and user-friendly as possible
  • Strong working knowledge of a design programme such as InDesign
  • Initiative and the ability to spot a story and turn it into compelling content for both those inside and outside our churches
  • Good writing skills, demonstrable editorial judgement and knowledge of media law
  • Good team player, able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience writing for websites and print publications
  • Previous experience working on a marketing or mission campaign
  • Excellent organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail

The Diocese of Exeter serves the county of Devon, including Torbay and Plymouth. It includes a mix of urban and rural churches. We are a diverse family of Christians with a wide variety of worship styles and traditions. There are a lot of innovative projects underway in the Diocese and much work still to be done so this is an exciting time to join the team based at the Old Deanery in Exeter.
