The benefice comprises six churches with Team Rector, two Team Vicars, stipendiary Assistant Curate, three Readers and seven Authorised Lay Ministers.  We are looking for someone with a deep faith, comfortable with the range of traditions in the team, who is eager to work collaboratively.

There is a moderate catholic tradition at St James, while a fortnightly Café Church is an important feature at St George’s. There is also a Church of England Primary School at Daisy Hill, and therefore developing links and pioneering new opportunities with schools is a very significant part of this role.

To build up the faith of the Church by:

  1. strengthening the existing Church in School links in the Team
  2. leading in developing and deepening links with other schools across the Team and pioneering new opportunities within the schools in the team.
  3. developing plans in collaboration with the team as a whole to move from “Sunday only” congregations to churches as the heartbeat of the community.

Do you enjoy meeting people?

Are you able to nurture across diverse congregations?

You must enjoy and have experience of school ministry to help build and strengthen the links already there

Are ready to be committed to playing a full part in the spiritual, administrative and pastoral life of the Team?

Blackrod, Daisy Hill, Westhoughton and Wingates are distinctive congregations with a clear shared vision.

The aim is:

  1. To see the worshipping communities in all of the parishes grow.
  2. To be inclusive
  3. To see confidence in the Christian faith and its expression in everyday life grow.
  4. To see every member of the Church become increasingly empowered by the Holy Spirit.

In the Manchester Diocese our Mission Goals are to be a “Church for a Different World” which is:

  • Growing – growing new disciples in missionary church communities which are younger, more diverse, active and spiritually engaged.
  • Nurturing – increasing vocations, nurturing new and existing disciples, increasing financial giving.
  • Serving – present for all, speaking and acting prophetically for justice, supporting pastorally especially the vulnerable, deprived and excluded.
