The Diocese of Leicester is seeking to appoint an Intercultural Ministry Enabler (ICME)

to enable Parishes and Fresh Expressions of Church across the diocese to develop intercultural competence and confidence as they enable all people to respond to God’s call on their life.

This is an exciting new opportunity for a suitably experienced person to play a key role in an innovative project to help develop and communicate across cultures and ethnicities our ministry and mission in Leicester and Leicestershire.

Based in Leicester, the ICME will be a key member of the Mission and Ministry Department.

The primary role of the Intercultural Ministry Enabler will be to inspire, train and support individuals and churches throughout the diocese to develop and embed intercultural skills and ethos into the core of their mission and ministry, leading to a greater cultural and ethnic integration in the life of churches in Leicester Diocese.

The key responsibilities of this post include:

1. The development of Intercultural Mission and Ministry across the Diocese

  • Work with a number of identified churches across the diocese to:
    • Develop a greater awareness of the need for and appreciation of effective intercultural ministry across all traditions, within the diocese with particular attention to:
      • Intercultural worship
      • Intercultural evangelism
      • Intercultural discipleship

2. Training and Support

  • Identify good practice in intercultural ministry and share broadly with parishes across the diocese.
  • Work with those involved in training within the diocese to develop and embed good quality intercultural skills and training into all forms of formation and learning within the diocese.
  • Support parishes in establishing active links across the diocese for mutual learning, paying particular attention at bridging the gap between rural and urban.
  • Work closely with the wider Mission and Ministry team to ensure that Intercultural Mission fits coherently with other diocesan strategic streams (Fresh expressions and Pioneering, Resourcing Churches, Rural Commission, Children and Young People, Social responsibility).
  • To assist in the planning, monitoring and reporting of activity intended to achieve the objectives of BAME project.

3. Context based

  • To support the development of an IWC in context at All Saints Loughborough

Key attributes include

  • Passion for intercultural mission and ministry
  • Being able to work well with a wide and diverse range of people and contexts
  • Great ability for networking and influencing
  • Understanding of ethnic and cultural diversity and unconscious bias
  • Experience of one of the following:
    • Active engagement with Intercultural church
    • Cross-cultural ministry and mission.
