Liverpool Cathedral is situated at the heart of a cosmopolitan city, adjacent to some of both the most affluent and deprived economic communities. The Cathedrals primary task is to support the missions and ministry of the Bishop and the Diocese of Liverpool.

Its mission statement ‘A safe place to do risky things in Christ’s Service’ is at the centre of all we do.

The Music department are currently recruiting for Lay Clerks to join its outstanding musical tradition.

There is ample opportunity for teaching and business posts within the City of Liverpool which would enable applicants moving into the area to become full and active members of the Cathedral Choir. North Wales and the Lake District are easily accessible from Merseyside, and the city itself offers a wide variety of good educational and musical facilities.

This position is eligible for an enhanced DBS check.

Lay Clerks are to be present at six of the seven principal services each week, and at such rehearsals as are laid down in the timetable below. The only deviation is on Saints days and other Holy days of obligation where the commitment will be stated clearly on the advance diary.

They may also be required at any additional rehearsal which might be considered necessary, and again given in advance on the diary.

During recent years the choir has taken part in many recitals, concerts and broadcasts, and is annually invited to sing B.B.C. Radio 3 Choral Evensong. The choir is regularly asked to sing for B.B.C. T.V. "Songs of Praise" and special services are frequently broadcast on television and Radio. The choir has also made many recordings and concert tours have been made of France, Spain, Czech Republic, Cologne, Netherlands, Italy, USA, Germany and Malta.

In addition to the wide variety of Church Music sung at services, the choir has an excellent relationship with the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, joining them several times per year for services and an annual concert, an annual three choirs evensong with Chester and Manchester cathedral choirs, termly concerts in the Diocese, Concerts supporting the Choral Outreach Programme and appearances with the Royal

Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, in both Cathedral and concert hall. There is a series of lunchtime concerts which lay clerks often perform in as soloists. There is plenty of scope for individual Lay Clerks to make progress in their own musical ability and to develop new skills and expertise.
