The Parishes of Stephen’s and All Martyrs, Lever Bridge, Bolton and St James, Breightmet find ourselves at a new place in our journey together, are you the person to lead us forward?

We are looking for someone who will lead us from a place of transition, into fresh ways of working together, exploring new possibilities for mission and ministry corporately.

This post uniquely combines elements of suburban ministry, pockets of significant deprivation and the experience of working strategically to shape the future of ministry within this deanery.

The congregations within our team are looking for a person of vision and practical presence who will lead us.

This is an interim post for a period of 3 years and during that time we hope that the Minister will bring our churches together to engage with the life of the communities we represent.  We need someone who is a visionary and a strategic thinker.  Someone who has some fresh ideas and new ways of thinking.  Someone who is enthusiastic about engaging with schools and helping to develop our work with children and young people.

So it is important that you understand the nature of interim ministry and its role in the future development of parish ministry in this context.

The Interim Minister will have day to day responsibility for St Stephen's and All Martyrs, Lever Bridge.

  • To rebuild sense of Team across the Benefice, working closely with the Team Vicar
  • Lead the development of closer links between the Churches, valuing their differences and enabling them to understand their similarities
  • Maintain and develop close and effective links with the Schools and hold a place on the governing body of the Primary School

For full responsibilities please view the Role Description attached

It is important for the The Interim Minister to:

  • have experience of collaborative ministry
  • understand how to build teams and be both a team leader and a team player
  • have evidence of experience of managing change
  • be mission orientated

The person appointed will come into the Benefice and Deanery at a time of transition.  The Leverhulme Team is in the process of being dissolved due to pastoral breakdown.  The Team has been in existence for sometime but has not worked productively together so therefore we are looking for someone who can identify the strengths that  St Stephen's and St James already have and see the opportunities to grow these and build new ones.  The expectation is for stronger working relationships and a more collaborative ministry as each congregation has its own challenges in terms of mission, ministry and pastoral support.

The interim minister will also work towards looking to build a larger team for the future with other parishes in the Deanery.

The Deanery has a very active Mission Action Plan, which is regularly reviewed. The Chapter and Deanery Synod meetings are well attended and supported.
